Spring Break plans

I may have mentioned that we have had Exceptional Drought conditions in our state since May of last year. Now, this is not to be confused with Extreme Drought conditions or even Severe Drought conditions...this is the worst of the worst. The local lake which supplies our city with water has been well below 30% full since May. It's been really bad here. No using the sprinkler on the lawn, only hand watering and only on Monday and Thursday for even street numbers and Tuesday and Friday for odd street numbers. Are you confused yet? Me too. You get the idea.
At it's worst, we were close to 30 inches below normal for rainfall in 2007.

My parents have a cabin at a lake about 2 hours from here to which we love to make several weekend trips and at least one longer trip each spring and summer. Needless to say, last summer, there were no trips of any kind since the lake was something like 20 feet below full pool. My kids were SOOO bummed! They love to go boat riding and tubing and fishing and swimming with Grandmama and Grandaddy. They kept asking when we could go to the lake, and I'd have to tell them I didn't know if we'd get to at all.

Thankfully, we've had lots of rain since January and the lake is within 2 feet of full pool. Since this is spring break, we are going to the lake for a couple of days. They know it's too cold to swim, they know we can't take the boat out since I'm not licensed to drive it, and they know it's supposed to rain tomorrow, but THEY STILL WANT TO GO! And actually, I love the lake house too!

It's calming to be down there. We do have a t.v. but the kids love to be out at the water line or fishing or exploring, so the t.v. doesn't stay on much during the day. At night, we read, watch movies or other assorted family things. It's just a blessing to us all.

So, we're leaving this afternoon and we'll be back on Thursday night. Ya'll have a good week!

Having Mom without the distractions at home is the BEST spring break EVER!
